Fraudster awaits sentencing

Joselyn Leon Thorp made his first appearance before Magistrate Mark Ngegba of the Pademba Road Court No.1, and was remanded to the Male Correctional  Center for fraud.

The accused was standing trial on 32 count charges to wit obtaining money by false pretenses contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone.

In summary of the charges, the accused person on several dates between April 2019 to May 2021, at No. 62 Siaka Steven Street in Freetown, with intent to defraud, did obtained the total sum of 880 million old Leones, property of Sulaiman Mano Sesay by pretending that he has a two story building at No.2 Upper Waterloo Street, known to be false.

The accused person without wasting the court’s time pleaded guilty to all count charges put against him.

In brief fact, the defense counsel, CSP Juan Bull, said the accused person obtained the total sum of 880, million old Leones form the 23rd January 2019 to 26th May 2021, from the complainant for a house, which is unavailable.

Meanwhile, Magistrate Ngegba said that ‘’ the accused person is guilty by the charges he pleaded guilty to, and that the sentence is earmarked for the 27th November 2023.’’
