Accused remanded for alleged larceny

22-year-old Mohamed Kalokoh Kamara made another appearance before Magistrate Sahr Kekura of  the Pademba Road in Freetown on 2 count charges  of robbery with aggravation,contrary to Section 23 (I) (a) of the Larceny Act of 1916 as repealed and replaced by Section 2 of Act No. 16 of 1971.

It was alleged that on 20 January, 2024, at Damaya, Hill Station in Freetown, the accused being armed with knife, robbed Isatu Kanu, property worth  Five thousand and fifty new Leones (Le5050).

It was also alleged that on the same date and place, the accused, armed with knife, robbed Sunny Pujeh Koroma of his property valued at Two Thousand one hundred and five new Leones (Le 2,105).

Inspector Lahai M. led in prosecution witness Isatu Kanu, a businesswoman, who recognised the accused.

She recalled on the 20 January, 2024, when  her husband left home for work, leaving her with two  of his younger brothers. 

She continues that she was alone outside cooking in the morning hours, but  she left the door opened and went into her kitchen.

 She said upon her return,she met the accused packing up her belongings from her room.

She narrated that when she confronted him, he threatened her with a knife, saying if she shout he will kill her.

The witness further stated that she was scared at the moment and that the accused then took one of her bags and placed her husband’s working tools in it.

She said the accused later jumped through the window while she also went out shouting “thief.”

She said luckily someone was outside and saw  the accused entered an unfinished building . She  said called her husband and  informed him about the incident while they decided to report the matter at the police station.

The witness concluded that she met the accused watching football match at Old Skul putting  on her husband’s clothes.

She said they apprehended him with mobile phone, keys, carpenter plane and brought him to the police station.

The matter was adjourned to the 9 February, 2024.
