Ruling Sierra Leone Peoples Party MP representing Kenema District, Hon. Brima Mansaray has described the bad state of the road between Kenema and Zimmi as a death trap.
The MP commented on the condition of the road while debating to approve the appointment of the new Deputy Director General of the Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA), Engineer Vandi French on Tuesday, 20th February.
“We in the Kenema District are suffering. From Kenema to Zimmi Highway is death trap,” the MP said.
Opposition Party Chief Whip, Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara also hinted to the SLRA new appointee that the roads leading to Parliament need urgent rehabilitation while another ruling party MP, Hon. Quintin Salia-Konneh urged the appointee to think about maintaining the country’s road infrastructure, hitting on lack of maintenance as major problem affecting the sustainability of Sierra Leone’s infrastructural development.
Parliament approved the SLRA Deputy Director General along with Nyakeh Amara, Chairman Board of Directors, Sierra Leone Commercial Bank, and an outsider from the media and communication profession, Bockarie Abdel Aziz Bawoh, Deputy Minister of Information and Civic Education.
Bawoh, a former Banker replaces Yusif Keketoma Sandi who returned to State House as Press Secretary following the resignation of Solomon Jamiru.
The appointees were unanimously approved by MPs. And Hon. Mansaray further reminded them of their primary responsibility, which he said is to serve the people of Sierra Leone and warned that if they do otherwise, posterity will judge them.
