In a significant development, the National Revenue Authority (NRA) has forged an alliance with the media (Fourth Estate) aimed at enhancing efficient tax education and fostering better revenue generation for national development.

The alliance between the NRA and the media was officially established during a breakfast session attended by a cross-section of media professionals from across the country, alongside the NRA Commissioner General and key officials. The event took place at the Shanri La Resort on Beah Road, Aberdeen.

During the session, NRA Commissioner General, Madam Jeneba Bangura, highlighted the crucial role of the media in the daily operations of the Authority and its impact on revenue generation for the State.

Emphasizing the importance of open communication channels, she underscored the need to build a concrete relationship with the media to effectively promote tax education, compliance, and economic development.

Madam Bangura also urged the media to focus more on the positive aspects of the Authority’s work in revenue mobilization for the benefit of the citizenry.

She challenged journalists to take up the responsibility of educating the public about tax mobilization, especially amidst current global economic challenges.

Additionally, Madam Martina Baindu Egbenda Esq., Director of the NRA’s Legal and Corporate Services Department, reiterated the Authority’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and trust in its operations.

President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists, Ahmed Sahid Nasralla, emphasized the importance of a strong relationship between the NRA and the media, which he believed would dispel misconceptions and misinformation about tax mobilization.

Nasralla also highlighted key areas where the NRA could collaborate with the media to enhance effective tax mobilization through education.

Media representatives from across the country suggested various ways to foster an effective win-win relationship between the NRA and the media, aimed at augmenting tax education and compliance.
