Freetown Mayor continues her defense in court

Former Mayor of the Freetown City Council, Yvonne Aki- Sawyer, on Tuesday,7 March, 2023, continues her defense as she was alleged of obstructing police officers while executing their duty at the Lungi Police Post.

Testifying on oath,Fatmata Kanyako, Personal Assistant to the Mayor, recalls on 17 September, 2022, when the Mayor and Councilor Sheku Alhassan Turay were to travel to the United States for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation summit and it was a trip that she facilitated. 

Witness Kanyako further testified that on the said date, through her mobile phone, the Mayor called her from the airport for her to inform the organizers of the conference that Councilor Sheku Alhassan Turay had been arrested and will no longer make the trip to the conference.

The witness said she did exactly as she was instructed by the Mayor.

After her testimony, state Counsel,Yusuf Isaac Sesay did not cross examine the witness

The matter was adjourned to 14 March 2023.
