Fake Inspector General dupes APC Jagaban Over Le100M

Fake Inspector General of Police,Samuel Bundu, who identified himself as William Fayia Sellu, on Wednesday 19 April 2023, made his first appearance before Magistrate Isata Sellu Tucker of the Pademba Road Court No 2 in Freetown.

He  was alleged of defrauding Mohamed Omodu Kamara alias Jagaban over one hundred million Leones with the pretext that he was sent by the Inspector General of Police to collect such amount of money for him.

The accused is standing trial before the court on three counts charges ranging from conspiracy to defraud contrary to law, obtaining money by false pretenses contrary to Section 32 (1) of the Larceny Act 1916 and personation contrary to Section 3 of the Personation and Uniform (Amended) Act No.13 of 1975.

The charge sheet indicated that the accused on Friday 24 February 2023, at Malter Street, Freetown, with intent to defraud,conspired together with other persons unknown and defraud Mohamed Omodu Kamara alias Jagaban the sum of one hundred and eighty-seven million Leones with the pretext that he was sent by the Inspector General of the Sierra Leone Police, which was known to be false.

The charge sheet further that the accused on the same date and place under the assumed character of the Inspector General of the Sierra Leone Police,obtained another forty million Leones from Mohamed Omodu Kamara alias Jagaban without lawful authority.

After the charges were read and explained to the accused, no plea was taken.

The prosecutor A.S.P Hawa Bah sought for a date because the witnesses were absent in court.

The accused was unrepresented before the court and so no bail application was made on his behalf.

He was remanded in custody until Monday, 24 April 2023, for hearing.
