The Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) has signed MOU with the Guinean Ministry Government for the use of the country’s ballot boxes in the 24 June 2023 elections in Sierra Leone.  It’s a move acceptable under the West Africa Electoral Peer Support Initiative.

Guinea will release about eleven thousand (11,000) empty ballot boxes to ECSL as Guinea’s assistance in the conduct of the forthcoming elections in Sierra Leone, the Electoral Commission reported yesterday, referencing Guinea’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Guinea, Morissanda Kouyate.

The Chief Electoral Commissioner for Sierra Leone, Mohamed Kenewui Konneh led the delegation of Electoral Commissioners and staff of the ECSL to the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in Guinea.

The signing ceremony was jointly coordinated by Guinea’s Ministry of Territorial Administration and Decentralization, responsible for elections administration in Guinea and the Sierra Leonean Embassy in the neighboring country, ECSL says.

Guinea’s Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralisation, Mory Conde chaired the MoU signing ceremony of the MOU.

The Foreign Affairs Ministers of both Sierra Leone and Guinea, together with the African Integration and Guineans Abroad, Agriculture & Breeding and the Minister of Post and Telecommunications were also in attendance.

According to ECSL, the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Guinea, Morissanda Kouyate  pledged his country’s commitment to foster bilateral relationships with another sister country and to help in time of need. The Minister said Guinea is happy to Promote Africa and Pan African exchange of ideas and materials in the area of Governance.

At the event, ECSL Chairman, Mohamed Konneh said Guinea’s support will create a significant impact towards a successful conduct of election in Sierra Leone. He expressed gratitude and appreciation to the Guinean Authorities and promises to take good care of the electoral materials and to return them in good order.
