Raymond Fangawa, a driver, made his first appearance before Magistrate Santigie Bangura of Pademba Road Court No. 2 in Freetown on charges of stealing a Samsung A03 Android mobile phone.

Fangawa faced one count of larceny, contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916.

According to the indictment, between February 1 and February 29, 2024, at the back of the President’s Lodge, Hill Station in Freetown, Fangawa stole, by trickery, a blue-black Samsung A03 Android mobile phone valued at four thousand five hundred Leones (Le 4,500), the property of Aiah Sandy Morsay.

When the charge was read and explained, Fangawa pleaded guilty. Prosecutor DPC 18325 Thoronka K.K. informed the court that there were no prior records against the accused. As Fangawa was unrepresented by legal counsel, he pleaded with the bench to temper justice with mercy, noting that he did not waste the court’s time by pleading guilty.

Considering the plea for mitigation, Magistrate Bangura sentenced Raymond Fangawa to thirty months (two years and six months) imprisonment at the male correctional facility in Freetown.
