Fifty-five-year-old tailor Kemoh Bangura, fifty-year-old driver Alimamy Bangura, and fifty-eight-year-old farmer Pa Alimamy Kargbo made another appearance before Magistrate Santigie Bangura at Pademba Road Court No.2 in Freetown.
They are charged with soliciting to murder, contrary to Section 4 of the Offences Against the Person Act of 1816.
According to the particulars of the offense, on Saturday, April 20, 2024, in Rokon Village, Magbina Section, Baked Loko Chiefdom, Port Loko in the Northern Province, the accused solicited the services of herbalist Alusine Kamara to kill one Abu Bakarr Bangura.
When the charge was read and explained to the accused, no plea was taken. During the hearing, the prosecutor requested a short adjournment.
Charles Pujeh, counsel for the accused, applied for bail, arguing that the defendants are Sierra Leonean residents of Freetown with reliable sureties willing to vouch for them.
He assured the court that they would not interfere with prosecution witnesses nor abscond if granted bail. His application was made pursuant to Section 79(2) of the Criminal Procedure Act No.32 of 1965.
Magistrate Bangura, noting the prosecution’s failure to file an affidavit in opposition, granted bail to the accused in the sum of NLe 100,000 each, with two sureties per person.
The sureties must provide valid identity cards showing their address in Freetown, and the bail must be approved by the Deputy Assistant Registrar.
The matter has been adjourned to June 12, 2024, for further hearings.
