In the high-profile treason trial of Amadu Koita Makalo and 11 others, Justice Komba Kamanda announced that the trial will conclude next week.

Following the testimony of the 12th accused, Abdul Sorie Hassan Kamara, Justice Kamanda assured both prosecution and defense that the trial is nearing its end.

He has scheduled the final oral addresses for Thursday, July 18th, beginning with the prosecution and followed by the defense.

“I want to assure both the prosecution and defense counsels that next week will be the final week for lawyers. After which I will do a summary, and this matter will end next week,” Justice Kamanda stated.

During his defense, Abdul Sorie Hassan Kamara denied the allegations against him, claiming they are “false and baseless.” He confirmed knowing some of the co-accused, including Inspector Tamba Yamba, Alimatu Hassan Bangura, and Inspector Kabba Kamara, but denied any involvement in a conspiracy to overthrow President Bio’s government.

Kamara recounted his actions on November 26, 2023, detailing how he was called to report for duty at the Lumley Police Station. On his way, he encountered gunfire and military personnel, leading to his arrest and alleged mistreatment by soldiers.

Under cross-examination by state prosecutor Ahmed J.M. Bockarie, Kamara acknowledged being seen with a rifle in CCTV footage at the Pademba Road prison but maintained his innocence regarding the alleged conspiracy.

The trial continues next week with the final statements from both sides, bringing this significant case closer to a resolution.
