Leone Rock One Nation tourney kick-off with a bang in Makeni

The inaugural Leone Rock Metal Group (LRMG), ‘One Nation Football Tournament’ got-off a flying and colourful start at the Wusum Ground in Makeni, Northern region as the North-East squad defeated their Western Rural opponent 2-1.

In a dramatic and entertaining encounter, it was Western Area Rural Area J.T who opened the scoring before Alhassan Kargbo secured the equalizer for the Northern East Region and in the closing minutes, Paul Jackson Kamara’s goal from the penalty spot secured the all-important win for the host Region.

Before the official kick-off of the tournament,which aim is to promote National Cohesion, peace, and oneness across the country ahead of the national elections, the General Manager of Kingho Mining Company, Gou emphasized the company’s central idea and relevant reasons behind the One Nation Football Tournament.

He emphasized: ‘’It is obvious that we share the same passion and the same love for this noblest of sports and that is why we are gathered here today. A passion shared by all, myself included. We love and practice it for many reasons which are the discipline that is instilled, the rigours of the training that one mind and the body, the community spirit that inspires, the competitively that it draws upon, the healthy living that motivates it and that is why the LRMG is promoting through football”.

The Minister of Sport, Mr. Ibrahim Nyelekeh, thanked LRMG for its solid funding and support towards national sports, noting that the support shows a healthy level of competition, with a mutual sense of pride being felt by the Ministry.

He further highlighted that performing with a sense of support from the company portrays the easiest way to raise morale, bolstering encouragement within the regional teams and providing a push for renewed enthusiasm.

 Both the Minister of sports, Ibrahim Nyelenkeh and General Manager LRMG Gou, officially opened the One Nation Tournament with a kick-off as a call for people of all races, regions, tribes and orientation to put aside their differences and embraces national cohesion, oneness, and peace in the country.

Also, at the opening were the LRMG Director CEO’s Office Salim Sillah, Deputy Executive Director- of National Sports Authority, Dr Abdul Rahman Swaray, the Mayor of Makeni Sunkari Kabba-Kamara, the Paramount Chief of Makari Chiefdom, Security Personnel, Sports Journalists, Media Owners among others.
