Geologist remanded for alleged murder

Twenty-eight-year-old Maya Sheik Kaikai, a Geologist, has last Friday been remanded to the Male Correctional Centre on Pademba Road by Magistrate Sahr Kekura of the Pademba Road Court No.1 for alleged murder.

The alleged murderer made his first appearance before the court on two counts of conspiracy to commit a felony to with murder and murder contrary to Section 1 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861 as repealed and replaced by Section 1 (a) to the Section of the Abolition of Death Penalty Act 2022, Act 6 of 2022.

It was alleged that the accused on Saturday, 26th August, 2023, at Falls Cape Garden, Goderich in Freetown, conspired with other persons unknown to commit a felony to wit murder.

It was further alleged that the accused on the same date and place murdered one Fatmata Kamara Koroma.

Now was taken after the charges were read and explained to the accused person.

After the charges were put to the accused, Magistrate Kekura was ready to proceed with the matter when the prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Ibrahim S Mansaray, informed the Bench that his witnesses were absent in court.

He sought for a short adjournment for him to inform his witnesses about the matter.

However, the accused person was not represented by legal representative.

Meanwhile,Magistrate Kekura didn’t grant bail to the accused person and adjourned the matter to Friday, 16th February 2024, for the first prosecution witness to testify.
