Nineteen-year-old Ibrahim Sorie Kallon, a tailor, and twenty-five-year-old Daniel Kargbo made their first appearance before Magistrate Sahr Kekura at Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown, facing charges of larceny contrary to Section 13 (1) of the Larceny Act 1916.

According to the charge sheet, both accused allegedly broke into the dwelling house of Alhaji Sahr Fabba Morsay on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at Baindus Drive off Lumley Beach Road in Freetown, and stole $3,400 from the complainant.

Police prosecutor ASP I.S. Mansaray called Alhaji Sahr Fabba Morsay, a traditional leader and miner, as the first witness. Morsay testified that Kallon had been staying with them to learn tailoring, and Kargbo, introduced as Kallon’s brother, had also been living with them.

Morsay recounted that in June 2024, he returned home late with a bag of money, which he placed in his bedroom. At the time, Kallon was at home while Kargbo was not present. Morsay admitted he did not secure the money properly and later realized it was missing.

Due to confusion in Morsay’s testimony, ASP Mansaray requested a short adjournment to confer with his witness.

Defense counsel applied for bail on behalf of the accused, but Magistrate Kekura denied the application due to the seriousness of the case.

Both Kallon and Kargbo were remanded at the Male Correctional Center in Freetown. The case was adjourned to July 25, 2024, for further hearing.
