34-year-old sentenced to 12 months for theft

Dauda Jakitay has been sentenced by Magistrate Sahr Kekura of Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown for larceny, contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916.

According to the particulars of the offense, on Friday, April 19, 2024, at No. 18 Fourah Bay Road, Freetown, Jakitay stole sixteen (16) tons of iron rods. Each ton contained eighty-four (84) lengths of iron rods, valued at seven thousand Leones (Le 7,000) per ton, amounting to a total value of one hundred and twelve thousand Leones (Le 112,000). The stolen property belonged to Mohamed Alie Jalloh.

On a second count of receiving stolen goods, contrary to Section 33(4) of the Larceny Act 1916, Abdul Sesay was accused of receiving the sixteen tons of iron rods valued at one hundred and twelve thousand Leones from Dauda Jakitay, knowing them to have been stolen.

Meanwhile, Magistrate Sahr Kekura sentence the first accused person at the Male Correctional Centre and bail continues for the second accused person. The matter was adjourned June 10th 2024.
