Mr. Parminder S. Brar is the new Country Manager for the World Bank in Sierra Leone, effective October 1, 2015.
He replaces Mr. Francis Ato Brown, who served in the office for the past three years.
In this position, his top three priorities will be to: (i) maintain the excellent relationship between the Bank and the Government of Sierra Leone and conduct day-to-day dialogue with the authorities, donors and civil society; (ii) oversee the implementation of the Country Partnership Strategy and the performance of the country portfolio; and (iii) effectively manage the country office and staff.
Mr. Parminder was in the country mid-September 2015 on a week-long pre-assignment visit, during which he paid a courtesy call on His Excellency the President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, met with key government functionaries, development partners, the UN family and had lunch with the country office staff.
In his meeting with President Koroma, Mr. Parminder hailed the government and people of Sierra Leone for standing strong against the Ebola Virus Disease.
Mr. Parminder, an Indian national, joined the World Bank in 2003 as a Lead Financial Management Specialist in the Operations Policy and Country Services Vice Presidency Unit. He has since held various positions, his most recent assignment being Lead Financial Management Specialist in the Governance Global Practice, based in Ethiopia.
He is married with three adult children. As a Professor, he has authored over 100 publications in various books, journals and reports.
