Woman incarcerated for killing husband

Presiding Magistrate at Pademba Road Court No.2 Mark Ngegba on Tuesday 3rd August 2021 remanded one Musu Sinnah to the Female Correctional Centre for allegedly killing his husband (Aruna Kamara).

According to the police prosecutor, Inspector A.T Bangura, the accused on Monday, 24th May, 2021, at 1st Banga Farm, Goderich in Freetown, murdered his husband.

After the charges were read to the accused, she didn’t take any plea because the offence is a capital offence.

Giving his evidence in chief, Detective Sergeant 94462 John James Bellia attached to the Criminal Investigations Department, Adonki Police Station, said he recognized the accused person as well as the deceased in question.

The witness recalled on the date in question, at around 1400 hours, while he was on duty at the said station, the accused was arrested and brought to the station by his colleagues for the offense of murder.

He continued that the matter was handed over her to for further investigation, adding that upon the receipt of the matter, a team of police officers together with OSD officer went to the scene of crime at Banga Farm, Goderich.

Detective Bellia added that “upon arrival at the scene we found the deceased lying on the ground with his back full of blood and his remains were taken to Connaught Mortuary for post-mortem.”

The witness said when they returned to the station, he later obtained statements from the complainant and witnesses.

He further testified that the team visited the scene for the second time and upon arrival, they discovered a kitchen knife with blood stains laying at the back of the building and a pieces of blood.

 He said he later took the knife and handed it the exhibit clerk.

He said himself and Detective Sergeant Johnny A.G later interviewed the accused persons.

 He said  his statement was witnessed by Dsgt. Johnny A.G while he signed as the recorder.

“On the 28th May 2021, at the Connaught Hospital Mortuary around 10am, I and the scene of crime officer witnessed the post-mortem examination that was conducted on the remains of the deceased by Doctor Simeone Owizz Koroma. While the pathologist was conducting the post-mortem, the scene of crime took snap shots of the deceased. After the post-mortem, a certificate of the cause of death was handed over to me,” he testified.

On the 30th May, 2021, he and Detective Police Constable 13264 Turay I.K interviewed and charged the accused with the offense of murder.

During Cross examination by Lawyer R.S Bangura, the witness said the accused told him that there was a fight between her and the deceased and that  they were fighting over a knife.

Meanwhile, Magistrate Ngegba remanded the accused person and adjourned the matter to Tuesday 10th August, 2021, for further hearing.
