Wife testifies against husband in murder matter

Fatmata Kamara, wife of Foday Jusu Yambasu, who allegedly murdered his father -in-law, Pa Sorie Kamara,yesterday testified in the Freetown Magistrates’ Court  before Magistrate Abdul Sheriff.

Fatmata Kamara identified the accused as her husband and the deceased as her father, recalling the date of the alleged incident.

The witness told the court that on the fateful day at around 8pm, the accused arrived home and met her sitting together with the children.

According to the witness, the accused had alleged that someone had told him that she was dating with another man, an allegation she denied.

She said after the said exchange, the accused grabbed a stone nearby, hit one of the children (Adamsay), beat her, and left her half naked, adding that she ran to her neighbour and later went to the deceased and informed him about the incident.

“I told my father that the accused person has locked the children inside the house and threatened to killed them. Upon that information, my father and I went to the residence in search of the children. When we arrived home, my father knocked at the door for over an hour before the accused could open,” she explained.

She testified that when the accused opened the door, he hit the deceased, beat him up and he shoved both of them on the floor.

She narrated that the accused entered the house and brought out with him a cutlass and an iron rod which he used to hit the deceased on his head.

Kamara further narrated that after the accused had beaten the old man, she took him to her neighbour and later went to the police station and reported the matter.

She said after the report, they took the deceased to the Connaught Hospital for treatment.

“After two days, I and my uncle went to the hospital to check on my father, but I was not allowed to enter the hospital. My uncle was allowed to enter and later informed me that my father had died,” she narrated.

The witness continued that she later went to the Adonki Police Station and made statement.

The accused was before the court on one count of murder contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone.

According to Assistant Superintendent of Police, Moses Moore, the accused person on Sunday, 9th September, 2018, at Kobo II, Goderich in Freetown, maliciously murdered Pa Sorie Kamara.

Meanwhile, Magistrate Abdul Sheriff presiding at the Freetown Magistrates’ Court No7 remanded the accused and adjourned the matter to Tuesday 23rd October.
