The Chairman and Commissioner of Right to Access Information Commission (RAIC), Dr. Ibrahim Seaga Shaw, has affirmed on Tuesday that the commission is ready for business.
He was speaking at a workshop held at Bintumani Hotel, Aberdeen, to validate the RAIC regulations, which cover their plans for the next five years.
He noted that the commission is currently faced with challenges in implementing the RAIC Act because there were no regulations, but that validating the said regulations would make the commission more robust in executing its Act.
He said the validation process was an opportunity for the public to look at vague expressions and excesses in the regulation and make it a proper and universally accepted document that would be later laid before parliament by the country’s Minister of Information and Communications.
Representative from the Ministry of Information and Communications, Gabriel N’doinje said the commission is a very important organ under the ministry, thus urging those present to take the process very serious.
Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai, the legal consultant for the regulations and one of the pioneers of the Freedom of Information Bill, which led to the establishment of the Right to Access information commission, said he felt excited that the regulation is validated despite the challenges the commission has faced in the past.
He cautioned the commission that the journey is still long, but that they were on the right path.
