‘We are committed to community action plan’

General Manager of a local alcoholic beverage manufacturer has disclosed to a cross-section of residents of Bottom-Oku in the Wellington Industrial Estate, east Freetown that the factory was ready to provide assistance in projects that are directly dealing with community needs.

Mahideer Reddy said the donation for the construction of a borehole in Ward 348, constituency 097 was as a result of request by residents who are in dire need of water, as the community struggles to access clean drinking water.

Reddy said the distillery had in diverse ways contributed to community needs development as part of their corporate social responsibility.

Member of Parliament for Constituency 097, Hon. Ibrahim Nox Sankoh, said residents of Bottom-Oku have been in dire need of a reliable source of water and that the construction of a borehole in Ward 348 was a huge sigh of relief for residents.

“We want to see that factory owners comply with their community action plan as part of requirement by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and their corporate social responsibility to see that factories works in the interest of community needs and on time,” Hon. Sankoh said.

A community elder, Ya-Mabinty Kargbo, enthused that the construction of a borehole was timely intervention to a dire community need and that children would now be safe from the danger of crossing the highway to fetch water, adding that many children have been involved in accident while crossing the highway to fetch water.
