July 7, 2016 By Hassan G. Koroma

The United Bank for Africa (UBA) Sierra Leone, alongside UBA Group PLC  and other UBA subsidiaries across 18 African countries, Saturday, 2 July, 2016 marked their 2nd Quarter Jogging-to-Bond event, which is popularly called UBA mini Olympic, especially as the world is about to witness the Olympics Games in Rio, Brazil this August.

The significance of the exercise was to keep its workers fit for service delivery to customers, according to the organisers.

The exercise, which started at Aberdeen Road, attracted staff who were clad in their traditional, customised and colourful, all-red T-shirts and baseball caps. They did a float parade along Sir Samuel-Lewis Road accompanied by blaring music and specially coined messages targeting customers and the general public about UBA products and services.

The parade ended at Njala Venue Beach Resort, where series of field and track events like football, volleyball, tug of peace, music and chair and 100 metres for selected men and women formed part of the menu of events.

The football match was particularly breathtaking as the Lion King United of Head Office battled with Ejiofor Rangers from Charlotte Street in the final match. Also, they days was spiced by a mouth-watering 100 metres dash.

Fanfare and euphoric jubilation climaxed the events as staff members from different branches supported their respective competitors to win every race. In the end, Ejiofor Rangers won the football match, while the 100 metres was won by Adelaide Street Branch.

In his closing remarks, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of UBA SL, Ndubuisi Ejiofor, expressed delight about what he termed ‘a wonderful Jogging-to-Bond’, and reminded everyone that the main objective of the quarterly event was to keep staff physically fit and mentally alert. He thanked all staff for the large turn-out despite the heavy downpour of rain in the early hours of the morning.

He further encouraged staff to strive to be the best at all times in everything they do.
