Two sent to High Court for sexual penetration

After completing the preliminary investigations of sexual penetration matter, the Principal Magistrate at the Freetown court No.1, Dr. Abou Bhakarr Binneh Kamara, last Friday (21st April, 2017) committed to the High Court, two accused persons -Abdulai Kargbo and Mohamed Jalloh for further trial.

Both accused persons were separately charged on a count of sexual penetration contrary to Section 19 of the Sexual Offences Act of 2012.

The prosecution had alleged that from 1st to 30th September, 2016, Kargbo penetrated the victim under the age of eighteen to wit 14 years, while Jalloh also penetrated a girl of six on February 8, 2017.

Testifying in the court’s chamber, the 14 years old victim said between the aforementioned dates, she went to sell cold water along the streets of Freetown, when she met with Kargbo, who convinced her to take her home for some favour, which she conceded.

She said when they arrived at the accused person’s residence, he took her to his room and removed her cloths and had sex with her.

She testified that the following day the accused also took her to his brother’s house and had sex with her.

She said few months later her parents realised that she was pregnant and  was taken to police station, where she made statement.

For Jalloh, the prosecution has closed its case during the last adjourned date.

In his committal statement, Magistrate Kamara said the prosecution on both matters had proved their case beyond all reasonable doubt that the duo have a case to answer in the High Court.
