Two remanded for Le.206m

By Hawa Amara

Musa Diop and Hassan Marrah were last Friday remanded at the maximum security prison on Pademba Road by Magistrate Komba Kamanda of the Freetown Magistrates’ Court No.2 for allegedly stealing a Toyota land cruiser valued at two hundred and six million, eight hundred thousand Leones (Le.206, 800, 000).

The accused persons were arraigned on two counts of conspiracy to commit a felony and larceny, contrary to section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916.

The prosecution alleges that the accused persons on 17 March 2014, at Bumbuna, in Tonkolili district, Northern Province, conspired with others to commit a felony, to wit larceny. The prosecution says the allegation pertains to a stolen Toyota land cruiser with registration No. AHI 488, valued at Le.206, 800, 000, property of Flash Rentals, which was in the custody of Africa Minerals Company Limited.

The matter was prosecuted by inspector Michael Kelly Dumbuya.

Defence counsel, A.R. Jalloh, applied for bail on behalf of the accused persons, arguing that they are not of a flight risk and will not interfere with prosecution witness.

Magistrate Kamanda, however, denied the accused persons bail.

The matter continues.
