Ibrahim Kamara and  Vandi Senesie, who allegedly stabbed one 27 years old Abubakar Fofanah to death on  February 20th, 2020, were  last Friday remanded  at the Male Correctional Centre by Justice Adrian Fisher of the Freetown High Court.

The two accused persons have made several appearances before Justice Fisher to answer to two counts of conspiracy and murder, contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone.

State Prosecutor, A.J.M Bockarie, alleges that the accused persons on Thursday 20th February, 2020, in Freetown, conspired with other persons unknown to wound and murder Abubakar Fofanah.

Early testifying in court, Detective Sergeant Gibrilla Kargbo attached to CID Kissy Police Station said the 1st accused and the deceased went into a fight at about 10:45pm on the night of the incident.

He said  some friends  and a security personnel separated  them, but that they continue the fight because the 1st accused promised that one of them should  die that night before he could rest.

He said at about 11:10 pm that night the deceased was escorted to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) at Kissy where he reported a case of wounding , alleging that the accused had inflicted multiple stab wounds on his chest and stomach.

He told the court that they issued a police medical request form to the deceased for treatment at the Rokupa Government Hospital and at about 03:00am on the following day, a friend of the deceased, Lamin Johnson, returned with an unendorsed medical request form and informed them that the deceased had died while undergoing treatment at the Connaught Teaching Hospital in Freetown.

“When the 1st accused was later arrested by the police, he admitted to the offense raising self -defense as grounds  for his action. He told us that after they were separated that night; they met again by a mosque along Wenzle Street, where they started fighting and went into a drainage. He said Fofanah had over powered him and was strangling him when he saw a bottle in the drainage and used it to stab the deceased in his defense,” he told the court.

After his testimony, the witness was cross examined by defense counsel, Cecelie Tucker from Legal Aid Board.

Another prosecution witness, Detective Sergeant Ibrahim Kamara attached to the Criminal Investigations Department, Kissy Police Station as a scene of crime officer, said he was on duty at the station when Detective Sergeant Gibrilla Kargbo asked him to witness a post-mortem at the Connaught mortuary.

He said on that day himself, detective Kargbo and relatives of the deceased witnessed the autopsy at the Connaught Mortuary that was conducted on the remains of the deceased by the country’s pathologist Dr. Simeon Owizz Koroma.

He continued that during the post-mortem examination, he took several photos with his digital camera which he later printed as pictures and those pictures were tendered in court as exhibit.

After his testimony, he was also cross examined by the defense counsel.

Meanwhile, Justice Fisher remanded the accused persons and adjourned the matter to Friday 5th March for the pathologist to testify.
