Trio makes debut in Europe & Africa

March 1, 2016 By Sahr Morris Jr.

Sierra Leonean trio, Gibrilla Julius Woobay, Ibrahim Obreh Kargbo and Prince Barrie all made their debut over the weekend in the Slovenian PrvaLiga, English National League and the Ghanaian Premier League respectively.

Woobay had a smiling debut for his new side NK Olimpija as they registered a 2-0 home win over Koper in round 23 of the Slovenian PrvaLiga.

The 31-year-old attacking midfielder had 66 minutes of action on his debut before he was

replaced by Miroslav Radovic.  Wooby’s NK Olimpija are now a point clear at the top of the league table.

Unlike Woobay who had a victorious debut, it was a different story for Ibrahim Obreh Kargbo in the English National League as his Welling Untied team suffered a 0-1 defeat to visitors Aldershot Town.

The former Willem II defensive midfielder played full time in what was described as an impressive display despite defeat to his side. The defeat leaves Welling United third from bottom in the English National League, which comprises 24 teams.

In Ghana, former FC Kallon youngster Prince Barrie also had full time action on his debut with Inter Allies, but he could not help his team from a 2-1 away defeat to Liberty Professionals.

Sierra Leone international midfielder Rodney Strasser, who is on-loan to NK Zagreb from Genoa, played for full time in the Croatian topflight league as Zagreb drew 1-1 with Istra 1961.

In Turkey’s  League One, midfielder Alfred Zagalo Sankoh came off the bench in 35th minute in his side Balikesirspor’s 1-1 draw with Göztepe, whiles Mustapha Haji Bangura replaced Sotirović in 84 minutes as Borac Čačak forced Novi Pazar to a goalless draw in the Serbia Super Liga.

The Swedish Svenska Cupen continues over the weekend with Sierra Leone forward Alhassan Crespo Kamara failing to hit the target as his Örebro side secured a 3-1 win over Gias, while Abu Suma played for 79 minutes for Frej in the 1-1 draw against Göteborg.

In England’s League Two, Alie Sesay returned to the starting line with Barnet over the weekend in their 2-2 draw against Accrington Stanley.
