Trio granted Le150m bail each for alleged fraud

Aminata Sesay Kabia, Sorie Kabia and Mr.S. Kamara were on Tuesday (16th March 2021) granted Le150 million Leone bail each by Magistrate Sahr Kekura of  the Pademba Road Court No. 4 for fraudulently obtaining money from Hilda Massaquio for a parcel of land.

The trio were before the court on two counts of obtaining money by false pretences and fraudulent conversion contrary to Section 20 (1) (iv) (a) of the Larceny Act 1916.

According to the charge sheet, the accused persons on diverse date between 24th March, 2020, and May, 2020, at Dodo Village, Goderich in Freetown, with the intent to defraud, obtained the sum of one hundred and fifty million Leones (Le 150, 000, 000,00) by falsely  pretending that they have a piece of land at Dodo Goderich for Sale and to prepare the land document for the complainant, Hilda Massaquio, knowing same to be false.

The defences counsel applied that the bail condition be revisited or reversed so that the two defendants who are in custody will be put on bail.

He said the other accused, if put on bail,will help to locate the third defendant who is on the run in view of the aforesaid matter.

Meanwhile, Magistrate Kekura  granted both accused persons bail in the sum of one hundred and fifty million Leones each, with one surety in like sum and each  must be resident in Freetown.

He ordered that each of the surety should produce any identity card depicting their present address in Freetown and that they should be responsible citizens.

 He said the bail must be approved by the Deputy Master and Registrar.

Matter adjourned to the 25th March 2021
