The Islamic faith on Friday (September 22) brought together thousands of people at Sierra Leone’s Siaka Steven Stadium to hear from the world renowned Islamic scholar, Mufti Ismail Menk.

The Grand Mufti of Zimbabwe was in the country for the first time through the support of the Foundation of Islamic Information on an inspirational tour to encourage the heart of giving and the love for one another, especially the Muslim Ummah.

Mufti Menk is an internationally acclaimed Islamic scholar and preacher, who has been using his lecture to inspire Muslims and non-Muslims across the world. Sierra Leoneans have been listening and watching him preach through Star and AYV televisions.

He came at a time when the nation badly needs psychosocial support after the devastating mudslide and flooding that left almost a thousand dead and hundreds homeless.

His sermon at the Siaka Steven Stadium hinges on peace building; love for one another. He encourages Sierra Leoneans to imbibe the culture of hard work and honesty.

Mufti Menk said he sees hope in Sierra Leone and added that no matter the problem, people should give smiling faces to those around them, while offering prayers for victims of the August 14, 2017 flooding and mudslide disaster.

“You didn’t come here purposely to see me but you are here because of the fearness of Allah. I am not superior or blessed than you. It is important for us to be smiling at all times because it is a Sunnah. The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was smiling,” he said.

He also advised the Muslim community to be conscious of Allah Almighty because He is the one who gives and takes life, while reminding them that their time on earth is very limited.

“Make sure you are always a submitter on to Allah. We are human beings and sometimes we commit sins. If you have transgressed against Allah, I invite you today to seek the forgiveness of Allah,” the Grand Mufti said.
