- Deputy Minister, CMO offices robbed
By Ibrahim Tarawallie
Thieves over the weekend ransacked the Ministry of Health and Sanitation where the offices of the Deputy Minister of Health 1, Dr. Abubakarr Fofanah, and Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Brima Kargbo, had their doors broken into and items worth millions of Leones catered away.
A team from the Criminal Investigations Department yesterday visited the scene of crime and obtained statements from the Deputy Minister, Chief Medical Officer and other individuals concerned, but no arrests have been made as we went to press.
Dr. Abubakarr Fofanah told Concord Times he was in Makeni attending the funeral of his late sister when he received a call from the Chief Medical Officer that his office had been broken into by thieves who took away items worth millions of Leones.
“When I arrived in my office on Monday, I found out that my 42 inches plasma television, dell laptop computer and a perfume that cost about Le400,000 have been stolen. My door was widely opened,” he said.
He explained that he met his fourth floor office drawers turned upside down and documents scattered, but added that he is yet to ascertain whether documents were stolen or not from his office.
Investigations carried out by this reporter indicated that the thieves may have entered the fourth floor of the 10-storey Youyi Building – which houses several ministries, departments and agencies – through the air conditioner space, after removing it to gain access into the entire floor housing the ministry.
As the police continue with their investigation, the Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Brima Kargbo, could also not confirm whether documents were stolen in his office.
Youyi Building is currently be manned by the Sierra Leone Police, which takes care of the entire compound and main entrance. A private security firm has been employed by the ministry to provide services during the day, while another private security company called Sabrena Security Agency provides 24 hours service, securing various offices within the building.
