Tetteh: ‘We must try to qualify for 2017 AFCON’

September 9, 2015 By Sahr Morris Jr.

Sierra Leone care-taker coach, Sellas Tetteh, is eyeing a place in the 2017 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Gabon after seeing his side forcing the African champions, Ivory Coast, to a 0-0 draw last Sunday in Port Harcourt, Nigeria.

The Ghanaian tactician expressed his happiness after securing a point on his debut as coach of the Leone Stars.

Tetteh’s boys were largely under the cosh for long periods in the match though they also produced a good performance in the entertaining stalemate.

Despite sharing the points, the Ghanaian acknowledged the effort of his side, saying avoiding defeat against such an accomplished opponent is a big step toward their chances of making it to Gabon in 2017.

“We did not win but I am happy because we played well. Also when you get a point after playing against such an accomplished side, you should be proud,” Tetteh said added: “Now, we must build on this and try as much as possible to qualify for the 2017 AFCON.”
