The outgoing Secretary General of the Sports Writers Association of Sierra Leone (SWASAL), Frank Mangus Cole, on Wednesday officially declared his intention to run for the presidency of the association.
Cole, who is Station Manager of Radio Mercury and also a shareholder at Leone Sports newspaper, used the declaration ceremony to unveil his ‘seven points work plan’ he will implement should he be elected as president of SWASAL at the May 23 congress.
The outspoken presidential hopeful citied fundraising activities, inclusion of women in the national executive, life-time empowerment, international football coverage, welfare of members, ensuring visibility of the association’s mouthpiece – Sports World, and developing nationally recognized and accepted identification tags, as some of the projects he will be embarking on.
According to Cole, “these are the most important issues around the association and my administration will work relentlessly to address them”.
Sports journalists in Sierra Leone will go to the polls on May 23 in Bo city and Cole will come face-to-face with Ibrahim Babatunde Sesay of the Satellite newspaper for the top seat.
