Suspended SLBC DG resigns

April 18, 2018 By Ibrahim Tarawallie

Gbanagbom Hallowell has decided to jumped before he is pushed

The suspended Director General of the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) has resigned his position from the institution with immediate effect.

Dr. Elvis Gbanabom Hallowell was chased out by junior and intermediate staff of the institution on Monday after he returned from suspension for alleged mismanagement.

The staff claimed that he had no right to return to work because an investigation instituted by the Board of Trustees into alleged mismanagement at the institution was yet complete its work.

On January 3, 2018, the SLBC Board of Trustees, after preliminary investigation, asked four senior management staff, namely Director General Elvis Gbanabom Hallowell, Director of Administration and Human Resource Thomas Sowa, Director of Finance Abu Bakarr Thoronka and Finance Manager Mohamed Sesay to step aside pending further investigations into alleged mismanagement.

The decision by the Board then was as a result of a strike action by staff members, citing poor organisational management, financial planning and management, inadequate logistics and lack of essential equipment.

In a letter addressed to the Chairman Board of Trustees yesterday, Dr. Hallowell said he decided to resign because of the prevailing circumstance.

“I write to assure you, Mr. President, my highest appreciation for the confidence and mandate you placed on me as Director of the SLBC as a national broadcaster,” he said.
