SUPREME ISLAMIC COUNCIL DISTRIBUTES CHINA AID FOR MUSLIMS

In a bid to reach out to all the Islamic organizations in the country the Supreme Islamic Council Sierra Leone has distributed essential items to various Islamic organizations donated by the Chinese Embassy in Sierra Leone as a way to strengthen ties with the Muslim Community and help with the current difficulties caused by the Coronavirus Epidemic.

In his remarks, the National President Supreme Islamic Council, Alhaji Mohamed Taha Jalloh disclosed that in a ceremony organized by Chinese ambassador to Sierra Leone Hu Zhangliang in partnership with the Ministry of Social Welfare, the Chinese Embassy donated 10, 000 surgical masks, 10 metric tons of rice, 100 rubbers of cooking oil, 100 bottles of hand sanitizer, 2 television sets, 15 cell phones, and 10 forehead thermometers. He emphasized that the main aim is to further deepen the ties between China and the Muslim Community in Sierra Leone and assured all that China will continue to support the Muslim community in Sierra Leone.

Alhaji Jalloh, noted that the donation exemplifies the friendship ties between the two countries especially with the Muslim Community and assured the Chinese Embassy that the Supreme Islamic Council stands ready to support the Chinese Embassy in their drive to strengthen the relationship with the Muslim Community in the country. He emphasized that since this is the first donation that targets specifically the Muslim Community the Council thought it wise to re-distribute the donation for it to reach all Islamic organizations in the country.

In her Vote of thanks, National President of National Council of Muslim Women in Sierra Leone, Haja Mariama Kamara, thanked the Chinese embassy in Sierra Leone for facilitating the great gesture especially targeting the Muslim Community. She described the donation as timely especially in this difficult time of the COVID-19 and expressed hope that the good relationship will flourish.

Haja Kamara assured the Chinese Embassy and the Supreme Islamic that the items will reach the target community and called for more assistance especially in terms of alleviating the extreme poverty of Muslims in the country.

The program was climaxed with the distribution of items to various Islamic organizations in the country.
