The Scaling Up Nutrition Secretariat in the Office of the Vice President has, on behalf of the SUN Movement in Sierra Leone, organised a refresher training for about ten officers who will undertake a Stakeholder and Core Nutrition Actions Mapping on 18-19 September this year.

The mapping exercise will target the year 2017.

Stakeholder and Core Nutrition Action Mapping is one of the key activities in the UN Network for Nutrition/REACH Sierra Leone Work Plan. The activity is led by the SUN Secretariat and specifically by the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer. For this exercise, the Secretariat will work closely with the M & E Desk Officers from relevant sectors to support an ongoing mapping exercise. Additionally, the SUN Secretariat will also be collaborating with the SUN Civil Society Platform that is planning a similar exercise for civil society.

In his opening remarks at the refresher training, SUN Secretariat Coordinator, Dr Mohamed Foh, who also doubles as the National Coordinator for the Scaling Up Nutrition Movement Sierra Leone, told the trainees that the UN Network/REACH Secretariat has a portfolio of analytical tools to help strengthen capacity to scale up and coordinate multi-sectoral nutrition actions/approached (qualitative and quantitative).

One of these tools, Dr Foh said, is that of the Stakeholder and Nutrition Action Mapping using the web-based Scaling Up Nutrition Planning and Monitoring Tool (SUN PMT).

The tool collects and collates data about which actors do what, in which geographic areas and through which delivery mechanisms. It also calculates the geographic and population coverage of nutrition actions.

The results will contribute to improving planning at national and sub-national levels as well as other multi-sectoral nutrition processes such as coordination and implementation of Core Nutrition Actions (CNAs).
