Accused used knife to stab deceased on the neck
September 4, 2015 By Hawa Amara
Second prosecution witness in the murder trial of three accused persons, Momoh Kamara, yesterday said in court that first accused Santigie Mansaray used a knife to stab the deceased, Joseph Forbie, on the neck.
While testifying before Magistrate Komba Kamanda at the Freetown Magistrates’ Court No.1, Kamara, a contractor, said he left home at 8am to go to his shop on Sunday, 9 August, 2015 and that on arrival, he saw the first prosecution witness Isatu Kargbo running and that she also told him the first accused had assaulted her.
The witness stated that he admonished the first and second accused persons to let go of Isatu, who subsequently ran into the room of the deceased, Joseph Forbie, pursued by the first accused.
He told the court that one Hassan, a friend of the deceased, came out of the room and asked the accused persons why they were pursuing the lady, following which the first accused removed his belt and hit Hassan, who ran into the deceased’s room.
Kamara said the deceased then emerged from his room to enquire as to what was happening, and was grabbed by the second accused, Abdul Kamara and taken outside of the veranda. He said the first accused then put his hand in his pocket, removed a knife and stabbed the deceased on his neck.
He said the deceased struggled for few minutes before he slumped in front of his (witness) shop, bleeding profusely. He said third accused, Marcella Conteh, was heard using invectives and threatening remarks against anyone who would testify that the first accused had stabbed the deceased.
The witness further stated that some youth later arrived and took the deceased to the Connaught Hospital, where he passed away. He said he was invited by the police to make a statement at the Criminal Investigation Department headquarters.
The accused were arraigned on two counts of conspiracy to commit a felony and murder contrary to law.
According to police prosecutor Sergeant 5984 Isha G. Fofanah, the trio – Santigie Mansaray, Abdul Kamara and Marcella Conteh – had conspired to murder the Joseph Forbie at Sumaila Town in Freetown, while Mansaray did the stabbing.
The matter was adjourned to 9 September for further hearing.
