The Sierra Leone National Sports Council (NSC) has urged the executive committee of the Siera Leone Football Association (SLFA) to respect the association’s constution and convene an extra-ordinary congress on 10 December 2014.
The call by the NSC came few days after SLFA stakeholders informed the Football Association (FA) that they have invoke Article 28 of the SLFA’s Statutes which addresses the issue of extra-ordinary congress.
Acting Director of Sports, Sadiu B Mansaray, in his 21 November 2014 letter addressed to the SLFA secretary-general, stated the NSC and Sports Ministry position regarding stakeholders call for an extra-ordinary congress.
The Letter which bears the subject ‘Re: Meeting of SLFA Members on Sunday 16 November 2014 in Freetown reads: “I am to refer to the above and to communicate the position of the Ministry/ National Sports Council in accordance with the mandate of the National Sports Council Act 1964 which amongst others provided that the Council was estalished to control sports in Sierra Leone.”
“That the Ministry of Sports / National Sports Council is calling on the Executive of the SLFA to convene the Extra-Ordinary Congress of the Association on the 20th December 2014 in accordance with the provision of the SLFA constititution as demanded by the SLFA members.”
The acting Director of Sports further stated that members of SLFA are the major stakeholders of the Association and their decisions must be respected.
The letter further reads: “Neither the SLFA executive nor FIFA should ignore the position of the SLFA members. Wither decision reached at the said meeting will be accepted by the Ministry of Sports / National Sports Councilis.”
