SLYCSM donates food items to quarantine homes

NOVEMBER 13, 2014

Sierra Leone Young Christian Students Movement (SLYCSM) of the Catholic Archdiocese of Freetown last (8th November) donated food items to the Coordinator for Western Area Urban Ebola Emergency Response Center, Mr. Ibrahim Sovonikeh Sesay, at the British Council, Tower Hill in Freetown, for onward distribution to quarantined homes.

During the donation, Vice President of SLYCSM, Madam Gemaimah Sonna-Martu, stated that as students from various institutions and being Catholics, they felt obliged to answer to the call of President Ernest Bai Koroma by donating food items to quarantined homes in the Western Area.

She expressed sorrow about the impact of the Ebola outbreak in the country and thanked all those who have helped the government of Sierra Leone in one way or the other, and Sierra Leoneans who have sacrificed their lives in the fight against the Ebola virus. She also thanked all those who made it possible for the donation to happen.

While receiving the donation on behalf of the National Coordinator and government of Sierra Leone, Mr. Sesay said that he was not surprised to receive such donation as he recalled that similar donation was given by the Lord Jesus Christ to a house in order to save lives. He described the SLYCSM as patriotic Sierra Leoneans who have responded to the call of the President. He assured the students that the donation would meet targeted beneficiaries, especially those in quarantined homes where WFP has not reached with their supply of food in the Western Urban Area.

National Coordinator of SLYCSM, Mr. Sahr Moses Lamin also assured Mr. Sesay that with cooperation from their partners abroad and the hard work of the Movement in the country, the gesture would continue.

The team also made similar donation in Waterloo, for the Western Rural District.
