Sierra Leone Social Aid Volunteer (SLSAV) with support from the Solvatten in Sweden has donated over fifty water purification solar to ten communities in Kagbala Section, Koya Chiefdom, Port Loko district.
The beneficiary communities include Kigbal, Makobeh, Masantigie, Matimbo, Rogbalor, Masefer and Mabioma.
Chief Executive Officer of SLSAV, Alfred Alex Jatta Dumbuya, said after the Ebola outbreak, their organization embarked on hygiene and sanitation in different chiefdoms across the country, adding that the water purification solar would help protect and prevent bacterial infections, as well as help the beneficiary communities to access safe drinking water.
“I am therefore appealing to chiefs and headmen to take care of the water purification Solar and also make sure that they are used for their intended purpose. They should also allow everyone in the communities to use the facility,” he said.
Isatu Kargbo from Kigbal community, Koya Chiefdom, thanked the donors, especially SLSAV for helping the community with hygiene and sanitation facilities, adding that the Water Purification Solar would help them prevent water borne diseases.
She said despite the Solvatten Water Purification Solar was not enough, residents would at least now have access to safe drinking water.
“We fetch water from bore holes and river, but with these purifications we are now going to have pure water to drink and cook”, she said.
Ramatu Kabia, a class six pupil from Makobeh community showered praises on SLSAV for the gift and called on the donors to help the community with more facilities.
