‘SLPP more capable to take Sierra Leone to higher height’

- Alpha Timbo

May 5, 2016 By Ibrahim Tarawallie

One of many aspirants for the flag bearer position of the main opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) has reckoned that his party was capable enough to take the country to a higher height than the ruling All Peoples Congress (APC).

Alpha Osman Timbo was speaking over the weekend in Rokulan, Sanda Tindaren Chiefdom in the Bombali district, where he announced to his intension to lead the SLPP in the 2018 presidential election.

According to lawyer Timbo, who served as Minister of Labour and Social Security during the Tejan Kabbah era, the party has better people than the APC to take the country to another level.

Although he admitted that the opposition party was bedeviled by problems inhibiting her quest to come back to power in 2018, the former trade unionist insisted that with him as the party’s frontrunner, he was convinced the party would return to State House.

“Sierra Leone needs someone who has experience in governance to chair cabinet and not a mediocre. If I lead SLPP, I will ensure that I reduce the dominance of the APC in Sanda. I have great values that will transform this nation,” he said.

Mr. Timbo stated that he joined the SLPP out of conviction and not coercion, and that he did it in order to help bridge the political divide in the country and unite Sierra Leoneans to work for the progress of the nation.

He called on other aspirants for the flag bearer position to give him the chance and opportunity to take the party to State House, while urging his people to continue to be loyal to the opposition party, who lost power to the ruling party in 2007.

Also, the party’s Chairman and Leader, Chief Somano Kapen said everybody was yearning for a Sierra Leone that is peaceful, open and tolerant, which according to him the SLPP can guarantee.

While stating that the SLPP is a party with a national character, Chief Kapen said from a human assessment point of view, Mr. Timbo has all the qualities to lead the SLPP and subsequently become President of Sierra Leone.

Similar sentiments were also expressed by other aspirants, including Engineer Munda Rogers and Dr. Alie Kabba, as well as former Education Minister, Dr. Alpha Tejan Wurie.
