Ex-Chief Patron for the main opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) has tendered his letter of resignation from the party to enable him play a critical role in reshaping the future of the country.

The resignation by Bockarie Enssah followed a massive exodus from the SLPP in the past few weeks by disgruntled members in the east of the city of Freetown, who followed former Constituency 101 Chairman of the party, Mohamed Kamara, to the ruling All People’s Congress (APC).

In a letter dated 7 April, 2017 and addressed to the Chairman and Leader of the SLPP, Mr. Enssah stated that his resignation was not because he has personal problems with anyone in the party but because of the belief that he should play a critical role in reshaping the future of Sierra Leone for the better.

“Throughout the years, I have come to savour very high and exemplary respect from yourself, the National Executive and the entire membership of the party. I have resigned because I believe I should play a critical role in reshaping the future of our country for the better,” he stated in the letter.

He claimed that for almost 56 years since independence, Sierra Leoneans cast their fervent belief on the SLPP and APC as political parties in charge of the country, but noted that the two parties have failed the people woefully and that it was time for both of them to go.

According to him, the APC and SLPP have established a taboo that they have a permanent base of fanatic followers, which gives their current leaders the license to keep failing and failing and expect an unbroken loyalty of the masses.

The former mayoral candidate for Kenema in the run up to the 2012 elections said a campaign would be launched against this taboo, which will be a change for the better, setting a different standard to measure politics.

“We are introducing a new dimension to the political landscape, which is to bring to bear advocacy skills and contacts to remove the APC & SLPP from governance through the ballot box, come March 7th, 2018. The Patriotic Alliance will mobilize the people against APC & SLPP,” Mr. Enssah noted.
