Leone Stars going to UK

Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), has confirmed that the national team, Leone Stars, would play an international friendly encounter against The Flames of Trinidad and Tobago in United Kingdom between 28th August and 5th September, 2017.

According to SLFA media officer, Ibrahim Kamara, both the SLFA President, Isha Johansen, and the T &T Football Association boss, David John-Williams, have both agreed for the said match to be played within the world football governing body, FIFA calendar date.

He said: “The venue and city in the UK is yet to be determined but they are planning to settle for the FIFA date which is any time between 28th August and 5th September, 2017.

“Also, the SLFA president plan to use the encounter in the UK as an opportunity to launch the Leone Stars official jerseys with MAFRO sponsors in attendance.”

The SLFA media officer added that international friendly matches would be key priority for the Johansen led administration, especially when the national team will have to wait until nine months before playing their next 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifying match against Ethiopia in Addis.

If all plans and preparation goes as scheduled, the clash will be Sierra Leone’s third international friendly to be played in England after they played against friendly Leyton Orient in 2007.
