Sierra Leone defender, David Simbo, is hoping to lift the Sudanese league crown this season as his side, Al Hilal Omdurman hosts second place Al Merreikon in a title decider clash today (Thursday October 30) in the Sudanese Premier League.
Simbo’s Al Hilal is leading the pack with 61 points from 24 matches, just a point above their opponent, and today’s clash will have a say where the trophy will go this season.
A win will see Al Hilal named as champions ahead of their final league match next week, but a stalemate could extend the title battle to the final day of the season. However, the Sierra Leone international wants the job to be completed at home against Al Merreikon.
He said: “We are all looking forward to Thursday’s match and we can’t wait to go out there and finish the job. It is the dream of every player to lift the league title and I am looking forward to achieve that with the club this season.”
“By God’s grace we will get the desired result. The reason why the club recruited us before the start of the season was to help them win their fifth league title and we are committed to do so as already it is in our hands to win or lose it,” added the 25-year-old who was gutted for losing the FA Cup to Al Merreikh FC last Sunday after a 3-0 defeat.
The former Might Blackpool defender continued: “We came close to lifting the FA Cup but it was unfortunate and we were all disappointed with the result. We just need to make amends for last week’s defeat and just win the league crown.”
Simbo has endured a good season since joining the Sudanese club at the start of the league campaign and last week, he was the club’s star player in their 3-0 win over EL-Ahli Atbara after an outstanding performance in the line of defence, and also scoring the team’s second goal of the match.
