Simbo delighted to lift Premier League title

NOVEMBER  4, 2014 By Sahr Morris Jnr.

Sierra Leone defender, David Simbo has expressed his delight in helping his Sudanese club, Al Hilal Omdurman lift the 2013/14 Sudanese Premier League championship.

The 25 year-old, who signed a two-year deal with the club last December, became the first Sierra Leonean player to win the Sudanese Premier League title with his team and he was delighted to get his name in the history books.

“It’s an amazing feeling for me. There is no word to explain my feeling right now. I’m just so happy for the fans as well as myself because it’s my first title in a top league outside Sierra Leone,” Simbo said, adding that he enjoyed every time on the pitch with the North African club.

Al Hilal only needed a point against derby rival Al Merreikh to secure the title, and after 90 minutes of battle, the home side clinched the title with 65 points.

The triumph marks Al Hilal’s eighth title in the past 10 seasons. Throughout its history, the club has won the championship 28 times during the league’s 46 seasons – thus making it Sudan’s most successful football team.
