Sierra Leone Sports confab deferred

Ministry of Sports (MOS) and the National Sports Council (NSC) have on Tuesday November 1st, 2016 indefinitely postponed the proposed sports development conference.

The conference which was scheduled for the 3rd, 4th and 5th November, 2016 in the Northern Region of the country, Makeni, was differed by both the MOS and NSC on the pretext of further consultations.

According to a statement from the Director of Sports, Ibrahim Bangura, the MOS, NSC and their consultant unanimously agreed to re-schedule the conference and undertake further consultations with stakeholders.

“The Ministry of Sports and the National Sports Council would like to inform the general public and all stakeholders in sports that the proposed sports development conference scheduled for the 3, 4 & 5 November, 2016 has been postponed,” the statement reads.

“Considering the fact that sports enthusiasts are demanding for further consultations into the repositioning of sports in the country, the review of the NSC 1964 act & the proposed establishment of the sports development funds, the Ministry, National Sports Council & the consultant unanimously agreed to re-schedule the conference,” the director’s statement further stated and noted that a new date would be announced soonest.

This was not the first time the sports development conference has been postponed. It could be recalled that the earlier date- 28th -30th July, 2016 was also differed before a team of consultant, which includes the former Sierra Leone Football Association General Secretary, Alimu Bah and BBC stringer and trainer, Durosimi Thomas were appointed.
