The peace reign in Sierra Leone football starts with the country’s national team, Leone Stars, ranked as the 113 best national soccer team in the world.
This follows the West African nation eighteen places slip on the latest FIFA world rankings table released for the months of April on Thursday by the world governing body.
Sierra Leone was ranked 95 in March but the April fall has also placed the team 31st places in Africa. The fall in the world classification could be connected to the non-participation of the team in recent international break.
The highest height ever the country has reached in the world ranking was in August, 2014, when they moved up to 50th and 7th in Africa. Sierra Leone’s group F opponents in the 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifiers, Ghana dropped two places from 43rd position to 45th place.
Like Sierra Leone, the Black Stars were inactive during the last FIFA day of friendly after arrangement to play Senegal fell through. Kenya moved up 10 places to position 78, while Ethiopia was ranked 124.
Sierra Leone returns to action in the 2019 Afcon qualifiers in a home fixture with Kenya in June. The next edition of the ranking will be published on May 4.
