Sierra Leone Players Abroad:

Bell-Baggie makes injury comeback

SEPTEMBER 16, 2014 By Sahr Morris Jnr.

Sierra Leonean winger Abdulai Bell-Baggie made a return from hamstring injury for his side, Tranmere Rovers’ goalless away draw with Hartlepool in the English League Two.

The winger was ruled out of Sierra Leone’s 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Ivory Coast and DR Congo. The 22-year-old, who played for 78 minutes in the Rovers stalemate before he was replaced by Donnelly, could have helped his side secure all three points after he missed two golden opportunities – firstly he failed to hit the target before a powerful effort that just clipped the top of the bar.

In the English Championship, midfielder Mohamed ‘Medo’ Kamara’s international exploits cost him a starting place for Bolton Wanderers against Sheffield Wednesday as the midfielder was an unused sub in his team’s goalless draw.

Another player whose international outing with Leone Stars cost him his starting place is Gibrilla Julius Woobay, who was left on the bench in his side, Neftci’s 1-0 home win over Khazar Lankaran in the Azerbaijan Premier League.

In the Portuguese Segunda Liga, midfielder Ibrahim ‘Obreh’ Kargbo played full time for Atletic CP in their 0-1 home defeat to Academico Viseu. The midfielder got his name on the referee’s book after he picked up a yellow card 10 minutes from time.

In Sweden, defender Ibrahim ‘Marcel’ Koroma got full time action in Varberg Bois’ 1-1 draw with Jönköpings Södra in the Superettan league.

Midfielder Ibrahim Kallay came off the bench in the 46th minute to help IFK Lulea to a 1-2 away win over Vasalund in the Swedish first division league. In the same league, Lansana Kamara had full time action in Umea’s 0-4 home defeat to IF Sylvia.

Defender Ishmael Koroma continued his fine form for Nyköpings BIS as he played full time in their 1-0 home win over Athletic FC United. In Division Two, midfielder Samuel Barlay also played full time as his Syrianska IF side forced Västerås IK to a 2-2 draw.

In Finland, goalkeeper Patrick Bantamoi was an unused sub in their 2-1 home win over Honka, whilst Hassan ‘Mila’ Sesay played full time as his SJK side were held to a 1-1 draw by Lathi.

In the Chinese Premier League, defender Gibril Sankoh’s Henan Jianye continues to battle against relegation as they were forced to a 2-2 draw by Harbin Yiteng. The defender played the full 90 minutes of the match.
