October 4, 2016 By Sahr Morris Jr.

Three Sierra Leonean players, striker Kei Kamara, defender Umaru ‘Zangalay’ Bangura and midfielder Ibrahim Kallay were all on target over the weekend for their respective clubs in the United States of America and Europe.

In the United States, striker Kei Kamara helped New England Revolution to defeat Sporting Kansas City 3-1 on a rainy Saturday night in the U.S. Major League Soccer (MLS) as they continued their push for the final playoff spot.

Kamara opened the scoring in for the home side in the fourth minute, thanks to an Agudelo assist, as the Sierra Leonean forward registered his 11th goal of the season. Later in the match, the former Columbus Crew striker turned  provider for New England’s third goal as Agudelo knocked home his cross just eight minutes after their 2-1 lead.

Still in the MLS, striker Alhaji Kamara pulled on the colours of DC United for the first time since recovering from a lengthy lay-off as he was an unused sub in DC United’s 1-2 away win over Toronto. In the North American Soccer League (NASL), Shaka Bangura was hobbled off just 13 minutes in Miami’s 1-1 away draw with Ampa Bay Rowdies.

In Europe, Sierra Leone captain Umaru ‘Zangalay Bangura’ marked his return from a finger injury by scoring his first goal for FC Zurich in the Switzerland Challenge League. Bangura powered a header in the 61st minute to make it four for the league leaders as they trashed Wohlen 5-0 at the Niedermatten stadium on Sunday.

In the Swedish second division, Mohamed Kabia played full time for FC Linkoping in their 2-1 win over Assyriska IF Norrköping, whilst defender Mohamed Bangura also featured full time for Härnösands FF but were defeated 1-2 by Anundsjö If.

Elsewhere, Hassan Sesay played full time for Lahti in their 0-2 win over Inter Turku, but his countryman, Ibrahim ‘Marcel’ Koroma was left out of the Lyngby squad that defeated HB Køge 1-0.

Striker, Alhassan ‘Crespo’ Kamara failed to find the net as his Häcken side suffered 2-4 defeat at home against Malmö FF while in Swedish Division One, midfielder Ibrahim Kallay scored his third league goal of the season as his Piteå club forced Västerås SK to a 2-2 draw.

In England Championship, Sullay Kaikai was introduced in the 65 minutes in Brentford’s goalless draw with Wigan Athletics, while Hassan Sesay was withdrawn 28th minute in Lahti scoreless draw with Ilves.

John Kamara’s Riga FC continued their good run with a 2-1 win over Metta in the Latvia topflight league and the Sierra Leonean midfielder was in full time action, the same as Alfred Zagalo Sankoh, whose

Denizlispor side suffered 1-0 defeat to Samsunspor, their second defeat of the season.
