After concluding preliminary investigation into a sexual penetration matter involving Mustapha Suma, 19, Magistrate Abdul Sheriff of the Freetown Magistrates’ Court No7 yesterday noted that the accused has a case to answer in the High Court.

The accused was charged with one count of sexual penetration of a child contrary to Section 19 of the Sexual Offences Act No.12 of 2012.

Police Prosecutor Sergeant 11406 M. Kpulun had alleged that the accused on Thursday, 21st June, in Freetown, had sexual intercourse with a 4-year-old gilr.

In his committal statement, Magistrate Sheriff stated that he had gone through the evidence adduced in the preliminary investigations and that he was satisfied that the accused person has a case to answer in the High Court.

In her testimony at the Preliminary investigation, the victim recognised the accused person as her neighbour and recalled the date of the incident.

“On the day of incident, the accused called me in his bedroom and when I entered he removed my pant, undressed himself and inserted his penis into my vagina. During that cause, I felt pain and I started crying,” she told the court.

The toddler further told the court that while in the room crying, one Aunty Agie opened the door to the accused’s room and saw them and later reported the incident to the victim’s mother.

She said her mother reported the matter at the Adonkia police station, where she made a statement.

Meanwhile, Magistrate Bangura ordered that the accused be remanded at the Male Correctional Centre on Pademba Road until the commencement of trial in the High Court.
