Sexual matter involving Evangelist goes to High Court

The sexual matter involving one Samuel Fofanah, an Evangelist at Winners Chapel International attached to the Protocol Unit, was last Friday committed to the High Court.

The accused was arraigned at the Freetown Magistrates’ Court No.2 presided over by Magistrate Albert J. Moody on one count of sexual penetration of a child, contrary to Section 19 of the Sexual Offences Act, 2012.

According to police prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent Tommy B. Ziza, the accused person on Tuesday 24th July, 2015 at Soldier Street in Freetown, did engage in an act of sexual penetration with a child under the age of 18 years, to wit 7 years.

In his ruling, Magistrate Moody told the court that during the preliminary investigation, the prosecution called three witnesses, who adduced sufficient evidence against the accused that warranted the committal of the matter to the High Court for further trial.

He said the medical report showed that the accused did tamper with the victim.

However, Magistrate Moody granted the accused bail in the sum of Le45 million, plus two sureties in like sum, and the sureties must be residence owners in the Western Area.

Also, he said the bail should be approved by the acting Master and Registrar.
