Seven sent to jail for unlawful possession of marijuana

Magistrate Dr.Abou Bhakar Binneh-Kamara has on Tuesday (20th June, 2017) sentenced Musa Kamara, Abdul Mansaray, Salman Jalloh, Ibrahim Barrie and three others to three months imprisonment or pay a fine of four hundred thousand Leones (Le400,000) each.

“The accused persons are sentenced to three months imprisonment or pay a fine of four hundred thousand Leones each,” he ordered.

The accused were charged with the offence of being found at a place used for smoking cannabis sativa contrary to Section 49(1) of the Pharmacy and Drugs Act 2001.

The prosecution alleges that the seven accused persons, on Saturday 17th June, 2017, at Bone suffer, Mill Street- Mountain Cut, were found in a place used for smoking cannabis sativa.

In their plea of mitigation, the seven men pleaded with the Bench to temper justice with mercy.

The matter was prosecuted by Police Constable 9559 Pratt Leslie and there was no legal representation for the convicts.
