SCB boss urges vigilance to end Ebola scourge

April 9, 2015 By Ibrahim Tarawallie

Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) yesterday urged everyone to remain vigilant and not be complacent as the country walks the last mile in the fight against the deadly Ebola virus disease.

While officially launching Season Two of the bank’s sponsored ‘Ebola Radio Soap Opera’ drama, Albert Saltson stated that the need to reinforce the key messages on Ebola still remains very relevant, hence the launch of their radio drama which is produced by Premier Media Consultancy in continuation of the drive to behavioural change as the country moves towards an Ebola free Sierra Leone.

He revealed that the maiden broadcast of Season Two of the Ebola drama was aired on Saturday, 4 April, 2015 with subsequent broadcasts every other Saturday for twelve consecutive weeks.

Saltson explained that following the bank’s donation of Le150 million to the government in 2014 to help in the Ebola fight, they launched Season One of the Ebola Radio Soap Opera in January 2015 as further support to reinforce Ebola education in the country.

“Today, we mark another epoch in our 120 years history of the bank in Sierra Leone, launching Season 2 of the bank’s sponsored ‘Ebola Radios Soap Opera’ aimed at our continued support to compliment the government’s effort in the fight against Ebola,” he told journalists. “This is to reinforce the bank’s commitment of being a force for good; for the progress of this country and our commitment to the people through good and tough times.”

According to him, the Ebola radio soap opera has become very popular with an audience of no fewer than three million Sierra Leoneans just under twelve weeks, and not least the follow-up public quiz on each episode.

Saltson concluded by commending Premier Media for the production of the drama and encouraged all Sierra Leoneans to continue listening to it to acquire knowledge on Ebola as the country strives to eliminate the scourge.

Meanwhile, bags of rice and cooking oil were presented to lucky winners of the quiz in the last two episodes of Season One.
