“Saone ready to take off”

The Embassy of Sierra Leone in Washington DC hosted a dinner at the residence of Ambassador Sidique Abou -Bakar Wai, Colorado Avenue North West -20011 in honor of Sierra Leone’s visiting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prof. David J. Francis.

Addressing an audience of Africa Ambassadors in United States, current and former State Officials, business people, philanthropists , intellectuals, and the Sierra Leone diaspora community in the United States, Prof. David Francis emphatically informed that Sierra Leone has been on the tarmac since it gained independence in 1961 but it is ready to take off now under the leadership of President Dr. Julius Maada Bio.

He dilated on the political foreign policy shift from Economic Diplomacy to Development Diplomacy with the intent of making Sierra Leone more attractive to investors who want to undertake credible investment. Sierra Leone’s Foreign Minister assured interested investors of security and transparency, and with a one -stop with the Investment Board in Sierra Leone where all issues ranging from registration to implementation is readily made available to incoming investors.

Professor David J. Francis admonished the audience that the COVID pandemic has left untold stories in the world where big economies also suffered heavy blow, and the impact is being felt by Sierra Leone which is a donor driven country. This dimensional change has forced Sierra Leone to adjust itself in the dynamics of a changing world. Hence the policy shift to Development Diplomacy.

The Foreign Minister reiterated the importance of harnessing the natural resources of the country for the benefit of the people of Sierra Leone. He further wooed business people that they will certainly make profit if they decide to invest in Sierra Leone, and that all transparent investors will get the protection of the State.

The shrewd and outspoken Minister catalogued a range of investment opportunities, citing the recent geo -data survey that has mapped out the quality and quantity of minerals and their locations in Sierra Leone.

He concluded by asking the diaspora community brothers and sisters to start thinking of returning to Sierra Leone and participates in the transformation that is taking place in the country. Prof. David J. Francis allayed all fears that people should believe in Sierra Leone, and that he is a farmer apart from working in cabinet with President Bio.

The Togolese Ambassador in United States  Frederic Edem Hegbe described Sierra Leone’s Ambassador Abou-Bakarr Wai as the “people’s Ambassador” that has opened doors for Ambassadors from the ECOWAS region in the United States . He further referred to Prof. Francis as a true representative of the whole of West Africa.
